Music has been a major part of my life since I was very little. My dad played saxophone, trumpet, saxophone and drums and led a family band we all played in, the "Erhard Ostendorf Orchestra." My mom played piano and violin and sang soprano. My brother Hal played drums; Jim, trumpet; Don the tuba; Mary the flute and myself, I started on piano, then piano accordion and later, in high school, alto and tenor saxophone. There were other band members from the area. Soon I learned to play the ukele, organ, guitar and later the french chromatic accordeon which had 5 rows of keys and every piece played the same fingering, depending the "key." After a few back surgeries and car accidents, I could no longer play the piano and organ because of sitting problems, and after many years, the accordions got too heavy for me. So now I'm back to alto saxophone and I have a new bronze Yanagisawa sax which I love but am still getting used to while I play in the Roseville Commuity Band.
